Whether you are blessed with impeccable skin or whether you have a battle against acne or redness, a good routine is necessary for the health of everyone’s face.

Ever wonder why you are told to wash your face every morning and every evening? The reason is to get rid of the sweat, pollution and all the dirt that builds up on our faces as we go about our daily lives.

If we don’t wash our faces daily, that’s when those pesky spots start to appear. Which, my friend, isn’t fun at all. You may choose to add additional products to your regime although the main three include a cleanser, a toner and a moisturiser.

Cleanser

Cleansing the face is a crucial step. If done right it can help you on your way to beautiful skin. This is what washes away the serious dirt. Don’t be over enthusiastic though, as cleansers can leave your face feeling taught and stiff. Always start off with clean hands.

Toner

Yep, you got it, toning doesn’t just mean your toosh. We use a toner to refresh the face and remove any cleanser that has been left on your face. Rose Water is a good natural product to use as it has no alcohol in it.

Moisturiser

This step is one of my favourites, as it feels so nice to massage something soothing into your skin, especially after a hard and long day.

What is a moisturiser? Basically it is a mixture of oils, water and sometimes other ingredients that have been thrown in for good measure. As well as keeping your skin feeling soft and hydrated, it also acts as a barrier, which protects the skin from the environment outside. It also helps makeup stay put longer.

Not everyone needs a moisturiser, but if you do use one then keep in mind your skin type and where to put it. Once cracked then your routine will only take a few minutes.

Step 1:

Start off by soaking your face with warm water. Ensure that all the areas of your face are wet. Don’t have the water too hot as this can damage and also dehydrate your skin.

Step 2:

Apply a small amount of your chosen cleanser and use your fingers to massage into your skin using a circular motion, this helps warm the product up and expand for an easier application. Avoiding the mouth and eyes. Once finished, wash thoroughly with warm water.

Step 3:

Use a clean towel and pat dry away the water. Patting instead of rubbing will stop the towel harming the thin delicate skin. Don’t use a dirty towel as they carry bacteria which will transfer to your face.

Step 4:

Now for the toner. Soak a cotton pad with your toner. Pat the cotton pad across your face, paying attention to the T zone, forehead, nose and chin as they are the areas that more frequently become oily. Try to not skip this step as the face toner removes any excess residue such as the minerals in tap water.

Step 5:

On clean fingers, use your moisturiser and gently massage into your skin. When applying around the eye area use your fingertips to massage. Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type and for a day moisturiser use one with a built in sunscreen.

Top Tip:

Your skin type will determine what product you use for your face care regime. Sensitive skin often will need products that have no fragrance or harsh chemicals. Dry skin often require a gentle cleanser but will want a thicker moisturiser. Oily skin will require products without using heavy oils.
