Mascara is an important tool in a makeup bag. Not only will it make your eyes appear much bigger, deeper and more detailed, it will complete your makeup look. So get ready to prevent those horrible clumps and make your mascara last longer.
Step 1: Place the wand of your mascara deep into the base of your lashes, wiggling back and forth. Placing the mascara near the roots and not the tips will give the appearance of length.
Step 2: Pull the wand up through the lashes, keep wiggling as you go. Wiggling helps the separation of the lashes.
Step 3: Close your eye and place the wand on the top of the lashes and pull the wand through, removing any clumps.

To make your mascara wand easier to maneuver, try bending the brush

Bending the brush gently, so the tip is perpendicular to the handle, will make the brush easier to control and makes its alot easier to get to those hard to reach tiny hairs.

On a piece of tissue, wipe off any excess, doing this will prevent clumping

When using a new tube of mascara, it can transfer a lot of product onto the wand which causes clumping. So, before you apply your first coat, glide the brush over a piece of tissue to remove unwanted product.

Keep your lashes curled for longer by using a wiggle motion at the base of your lashes

If you coat all your lashes evenly, the product will weigh down the tips causing your lashes to straighten. The best way to avoid this is by coating the root of your lashes with a thicker coat of mascara and a lighter one towards the tips. Achieve this by using the wiggle motion back and forth at the base then lightly comb through the ends.

Layer waterproof mascara with your normal mascara

As well as keeping your mascara from smearing through the day, waterproof mascara is also great for holding a curl. But as a waterproof can be difficult to remove, applying your normal mascara first then a coat of your waterproof will make it easier to remove at the end of the day.

Coat both sides of your lashes

For those of you that have thin or light coloured eyelashes, coat both sides of them by alternating between looking up and down whilst applying. This will ensure that the hairs are fully covered, giving the appearance of thicker fuller lashes.

Angle your brush for different looks

Many may not know, but the way you hold your brush when you apply your mascara makes a big difference to the look you want. Holding the brush horizontally, with the wiggling motion, will give you voluminous lashes. Holding it vertically and running the tip of the brush along the length will give more of a natural look.

Plump up those lashes

Dusting baby powder or translucent powder on your eyelashes between the first and second coats of your mascara will stick to your lashes together, making them appear more voluminous.

Curling your lashes

Curl your lashes whilst applying mascara at the same time. If you find your lashes tend to fall straight, clamp your curler at the base of your lashes after the first coat. The wetness of your product will make your lashes fall straight. Using the curler in between will help reinforce the curl.

Heat up your curler

Blowing warm air onto your curlers with a hair dryer will also help ensure the shape to hold longer. Wait until the curlers cool down a bit, then curl your lashes as normal. Like creating curls in your hair with curling tongs.
