When plucking and shaping your eyebrows you should be considering your face shape. This is because your eyebrow shape should be complimenting your overall face shape.

Thicker is generally better

Fuller eyebrows portray a sense of youth to the face. So keeping them thicker will make you look younger, still shape them of course but don’t go tweezer happy.

Shape accordingly

Ideally your eyebrows should be thicker on the inner part of your brow and then they should taper into a thinner line as your brow goes out towards your temples. The Arch of your eyebrow should be just outside of the pupil.

If you are after super dark brows, you may need to lighten them. If you have fair skin and very dark brows, you may want to lighten them also. If you do want to make them less harsh, maybe bleach them. Only leave the bleach on for 5 minutes or you will end up with orange brows.

Never fill your eyebrows in with a black pencil. Even if you do have black eyebrows naturally, use a dark brown to fill them in, not a black.

For the most natural looking eyebrows, use a powder instead of a pencil. Use a matte finish tan or brown eyeshadow to fill them in. Using an angled brush, apply the shadow into the sparse areas. I’ve found the best colours for eyebrows are the MAC eye shadow in Symmetry or Wedge for you blondies and MAC eye shadow in the colour Cork for brunettes.

The entire brow isn’t usually the same darkness throughout. Generally the arch and the tail of the eyebrow should be the most defined and also the darkest parts. The inner part of the eyebrow should be slightly more sparse and lighter. Almost creating an ombre effect throughout the eyebrow.

Choose your face shape from below and and create your ideal eyebrows.

Oval

This is often considered to be the ideal face shape. For the perfect eyebrow for this face shape would be a soft angled shape to enhance your look.

Long

With a longer face, aim for a flat eyebrow shape as the horizontal line should break up your face, making it appear shorter.

Round

For a rounder face, use a more high arch shape. Creating a gentle curve on a round face will only give the illusion of a much rounder face.

Square

With a square face shape, the stronger the jawline the more defined that peak in the eyebrow should be. Start off with a curve and then add an angle to create that balance.

Heart

With a heart shape you will want to create more length to the forehead, but also balance out a pointy chin. To create the perfect eyebrow shape start with an arch and then add volume with a curved brow through the end.

Diamond

Creating a curved eyebrow will reduce the widest part of your face, usually the temple and will also soften the face.
