If we were to hold a makeup bag popularity contest, cream blush would probably fall somewhere at the bottom between lip stains and individual lashes. All nice in theory but are all usually avoiding in the fear of looking like a clown.
Let’s re- evaluate then cream blush shall we?

The cream blush is our friend, honestly. This is because it will melt effortlessly into the skin, therefore making the colour look more of a natural flush to the cheeks compared to the powder blushes. When applied correctly, the creamy moist texture will give you a dewy finish, This is a great one for dry or mature skin and it couldn’t be easier to apply and blend out. Just remember that with a cream blush, a little can go along way.

If you are part of the percentage that are like me in thinking the best way to put on the cream blushes with dabbing your finger and then blending it, and that’s fine, if that’s the technique you like to use but using a makeup brush can give you better control and a much nicer, more even finish.

When you are using your finger, with clean hands, try not to pick up too much product on your fingers before you dab it on your cheeks, otherwise you’ll be wiping it off where it was creeping up to your temple and towards your nose.

Step 1

It’s not recommended to put a cream blush over a powder as the two will grab each other, which will make a clumping and splotchy look. Its best to work with a wet on wet texture, which means, choose a creamy foundation to create a smooth base for the blush.

Step 2

Pick the right product for you. Not all the cream blushers are made the same. So do some homework on cream blushers if you’re new to them to find which one will suit your skin’s needs best. For a daytime look, formulas that are dry with a powdery finish is great. For a night time look, use a blush with a little sparkle to it.

Step 3

Use the same method to your powder blush to your cream blush, when applying. With an angled blush brush, start at the apples of your cheeks, then move upwards and outwards, moving your brush is a C shape motion.

Step 4

Depending on the type of cream blush you have gone for, you can also use a clean fingers to apply. Just dab the blush onto the apples of your cheeks and then blend out with a brush.

Tip:

Don’t use a sponge to apply cream blush. Using a sponge will give too much product and using a sponge to blend the product out won’t work as well as the warmth from your finger to help move the product.

To add a an extra glow to your cheekbones, use a highlighter on your cheekbones.

So don’t let the non powder products intimidate you.

There you are, you’re now a master of the cream blush!
