In 2014, selfie fan Kim Kardashian put the contouring technique well and truly on the map. If you’ve been paying attention to the massive craze of the contour, then you’ll most likely be well aware that over the past few months it has become the most popular beauty craze of 2015.

What started off as a makeup artist’s trick has now turned into a full blown phenomenon. We thought that maybe once girls were bored of painting their faces like clowns, butterflies and even candy skulls, that the hype might of died down. It didn’t, at all.

Enter Tontouring

In an honest and full confession: we ladies are lazy. While we do love our makeup, sometimes we just don’t want to bother with the hassle of it, especially when we just want to hit snooze on our pesky alarms. In the fast paced beauty industry, a whole new means of contouring has now taken hold, but this time it doesn’t involve any makeup at all. The perfect trend and lazy alternative to getting a chiseled face.

Instead of normal contouring, using powder or creams that are a few shades darker than your normal skin tone, Tontouring uses self tanner. The new term for contouring was found by Marissa Carter, Founder of Cocoa Brown, who demonstrated this technique via her Snapchat account.

As it’s every woman’s dream to be able to look great without any makeup at all, this technique gives you the opportunity to wake up every morning with a natural contoured and sculpted face. Using this technique means you will only need to contour your face once a week instead of doing it everyday.

It is recommended that you start the regime off by applying a gradual tanner to your entire face, this is a great base and will give your skin a natural and gentle glow.

With a stippling brush, add a darker shade, mousse formula (as it’s oil free and won’t clog your pores) close to your hairline. Next you will want to use an angled brush to shade down the sides of your nose and a little under the tip, to make your nose appear smaller, and then hollow out your cheeks from ear to mid cheek. At first this may look slightly harsh but use your fingers to blend out any harsh lines for an even glow.

Providing that you blended it out well, in just a few hours you will see a contour that looks pretty natural and it won’t wash off at the end of the day. If you’re a massive fan of hitting that snooze button a few times, like we are, then this technique is one to add to your regime.
Just remember, whilst this could potentially seem like an amazing idea in theory, self tanner isn’t the easiest formula to work with. Yes, only having to do this technique once a week is a huge perk, but what if you miss a spot? You can already imagine some of the beauty blunders that could arise. Hilarious but also terrifying.
