So we all know that we don’t need makeup to be beautiful, but there are times that we like to take our time and groom ourselves. Knowing how to apply the right kind of makeup in the right way will help you from making makeup mistakes that could be aging you. So here are a few ways to stop that from happening and keep your makeup from looking like it has aged you.
Blusher in Dark Shades or in Matte.
Wearing a blusher that is a deeper colour or has a matte finish to it can make you look older. Whereas if you go for a lighter shade or pink tones that have a sheer finish to them, this will make you look young and fresh faced.
Brown Eyeshadows
Initially you would opt for a brown or beige eyeshadows to brighten the eye but these can also highlight the tired lines that you may have. If you decide to switch it up, go for a more shimmering mauve colours as this will make you eyes pop and give you a more youthful look.
Too Much Foundation
Buying Foundations that are to thick will settle in any fine lines that you may have. Wearing foundations that even out the discolouration. Avoid foundations that say ‘matte’ or ‘long-wearing’ and go for the ones that say sheer liquid formulas. Apply moisturiser after you have cleansed your face and before applying your foundation, this will help with the drier skin types as foundation can start to look patchy otherwise.
Too Much Concealer
Using concealers that are a thicker consistency and come in the form of a stick or a pot will eradicate the bags under your eyes, but be cautious as they also can creep into the fine lines of that area as the skin in so fine and thin there. A better option if you do have this problem is to use a highlighter brush on pen.
Deep Dark Lips
A dark shade can make any surface appear smaller. This is welcomed on your hips but not usually on the lips. To make your mouth look fuller, try using colours that are bit brighter such as peaches and pinks over the darker burgundy shades.
Finishing Powder
The trick to youthful skin is having the light reflect off of it. Using powders can prevent the light from reflecting and it can also settle into fine lines, magnifying them. If this has been your final step to your makeup routine since way back then maybe going cold turkey isn’t for you. You can switch to a sheer translucent powder and just use it on your T zone area.
Black Eyeliner
Don’t skip the eyeliner all together as it can give you the appearance of a more open eye. Instead of going for your favourite black liner switch it to a brown, as it isn’t as harsh. You will want to define your eyes in a softer more blended way instead of strict lines.
Lip Liner Overboard
Lip liners are great to define your lips and also to prevent the colour from feathering into the lines that are around your mouth. However, choose one very carefully. Lining your lips with too much product or with a shade that is too dark can make your lips look tight. For the best results and a young refreshed look its best to use a lip liner that matches your lips natural colour.
Lower Lashes
Using mascara to play up your bottom lashes can in fact make your eyes look droopy and also draw unwanted attention to the bags under your eyes. Curl your upper lashes and wiggle the mascara wand from the bottom to the top for an uplifting effect.
Applying Lipstick Straight From the Tube
As the edges of your lips tend to soften through age, any extra lipstick that is applied will migrate very quickly. Use a lip brush so that you don’t apply too much product and concentrate the pigment towards the centre of the mouth.
Dark Eyebrow Pencils
As you get older the hair in your eyebrows get fairer, so the pencil you were using at the age of 21-25 probably isn’t the best for you complexion at the age of 50. Its best to pick a shade that is most like your natural shade now and if you feel your brows are looking a little wiry, then run some gel brow gel over them too.
