Our hair is under threat!
We change our hair colour regularly, torment our locks with hair dryers, straighteners, curling wands, we leave it out in the open to scorch in the sun or let it get whipped around in the wind, without giving it a second thought and we barely think about feeding it well. So it isn’t any wonder why sometimes our beautiful barnets look more like an old mop.
The strain of the modern life we live in now puts all sorts of stresses on our hair and if that isn’t hard enough, the media bombard our eyes with the celebs with their luxurious locks. I mean, what is a girl to do?
Well, apart from trying to do lots with our hair, according to a recent survey, almost a quarter of the British woman are spending more than £2k a year on their hair, then on average, we are also spending around £500 a year just on products!
But spending all that money on lovely hair products doesn’t actually mean that we are looking after it properly. So here are some tips for you to use to beat the stresses we put on our hair on a daily basis
Colouring your hair:
Since the Ombre effect started happening, it has never been more fashionable to colour our hair. But, colouring our hair can be hard on our hair, particularly hair dyes that have loads of chemical in them. You will find so many horror stories out there about the side effects some people have, such as, itchy or red skin and sometimes even hair loss. Also dying your regularly can cause your hair to become brittle and dry, which cause your strands to break.
Top Tip:
If you are going to dye your hair then we suggest that you choose the dye wisely. Switch to ammonia free natural hair dyes. If you go to the salon to get your hair done, consider going darker rather than going lighter. This is because lowlights are less damaging to the hair than using highlights.
Hair Extensions:
Hair extensions are still massively popular at the moment especially with some of the celebrities. But they’re not without their problems either. Some celebrities have been spotted with bald patches and even Jennifer Aniston have been reported saying that their hair extensions have ruined their hair.
Top Tip:
Don’t do it. But if you feel like it is a must then head to a reputable hair stylist and try not to choose anything that will be too heavy. If you get big heavy hair extensions then the problems will end up happening more quickly. Remember to go back to the salon for regular maintenance and you do notice hair loss then take the hint and quit.
Pollution:
Pollution, toxins, dust and smoke that is swilling around the air can make you hair look and feel dull, even lifeless and limp. A study that was carried out but the University of London, even found a link between pollution and male baldness.
Top Tip:
Try to use natural conditioners that contain detox qualities. Over washing your hair will also weaken it. Use shampoos that have been designed for dry and damaged hair. Coconut oil is a must have product for your hair as it will help nourish your hair.
Poor Diet:
Well by now we all should know that what we put into our bodies, have an effect on how it will look and that does include hair. If you aren’t getting enough nutrients in your diet then your hair will start to suffer and begin to look dull and thin.
Top Tip:
Superfoods! There are a number of superfoods that are great for your hair. Vitamin B is great for your hair. That means eating fish, particularly salmon and also eggs. Zinc is also a great source for your hair – so including nut like almonds walnuts and pecan into your diet will also help. And guess what? Dark chocolate is also high in zinc.
So basically, look after your body and you will notice your hair becoming happier.
Straightening Irons:
Many of us do love to use our straightening irons and curling tongs. A third of us girls own a pair and apparently so do 1 in 5 men. But constantly blasting your hair with lots of heat can cause your hair to become quite brittle, which will cause your hair strands to break easily. In the long run, straighteners can also make your hair frizzier.
Top Tip:
Keep the heat down. Don’t use the hottest setting you have on your straighteners and try not to use them everyday. Also, you should never straighten your hair whilst it is wet. Use natural hair products and straightening hair care products that contain Chamomile flowers and neem leaves, these will revitalise your dry hair.
We hope that these few tips help you on your way to have fabulous, hydrated hair.
