Making your own homemade scrubs and face masks has never been easier. Why go out and buy a basic store bought face mask, when you can simply use ingredients from around the house that will cost you next to nothing and help you save those pennies?

Making your own homemade masks is really easy and, in this article, I will share a few of my most popular recipes that will work on all skin types.

The face mask should be left to sit for around 10-15 minutes. I personally like to use a steaming hot washcloth to wash my mask off. I run the washcloth under the hot tap, squeeze off the excess water and pat my face for around 1-2 minutes.

Up First, is the Egg White face mask.

Moisturising and soothing, with only 2 ingredients:

  • 2 egg whites, separate the yolks.
  • 2 tsp of plain yoghurt (greek yoghurt works great).

Separating the whites from 2 eggs, place them into a bowl. Add The yoghurt. Mix them up well and apply. Rinse with warm water.

Oatmeal and Yoghurt

Cleanse and rejuvenate, only using 3 ingredients:

  • 1 tsp oatmeal, finely ground.
  • 1 tsp organic plain yoghurt.
  • A few drops honey.

Mix together the oatmeal and yoghurt in a bowl. Warm a spoon under hot water, add few drops of honey to the spoon. Stir honey into the mixture. Apply to your face. leave for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Coffee and Cocoa

Wake up and brighten up a dull complexion, using 4 ingredients:

  • 4 tsp cocoa powder, unsweetened.
  • 4 tsp Coffee beans, finely ground.
  • 8 tsp yoghurt, unflavoured.
  • 2 tsp honey.

Mix the finely ground coffee beans with the cocoa powder in a bowl. Add in the yoghurt and mix into a paste consistency. Use less yoghurt if you are after a thicker paste. Then stir in the honey. Apply to your face and let the mask dry. Rinse with warm water. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for a few days.

Yoghurt Mask

Cooling Mask, great for sunburns, with 2 simple ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Natural yoghurt.
  • 1 tsp honey.

Warm the honey, so it’s runny and combine it with the yoghurt in a bowl and mix. Apply to your face and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Clay Mask

Super soft skin with only 5 ingredients:

  • 1 ½ tsp green clay
  • ½ tsp kaolin clay
  • 1 ½ tbsp aloe vera gel
  • 1 tbsp rosewater
  • 2 drops rose essential oil

Start by mixing the 2 clays together in a bowl. Add in the aloe vera, rose water and oil. Apply and let sit for 10-15 minutes then rinse with warm water. Can be refrigerated for 4 weeks.

Face masks should stay on for around 10-15 minutes before washing off. Run a washcloth under warm water, squeezing the excess water out, then gently wash off using a circular motion. Then follow with a thin layer of moisturiser.
