While we should be celebrating that the warmer weather is approaching, the humidity in the air and the high temperatures can sometimes leave us with the dreaded melting face look.

Whether you are after smudge proof eyes or even just to remain shine free for the whole day, there are always ways to get your makeup to live longer through the warmer weather.

Primer

Using a pea size amount of an oil free primer and when using this dab along your T zone, as well as the other places that easily become shiny throughout the day.
Apply your primer after your moisturiser but before you apply your makeup.

If you are really oily and want something with a real holding power, try Milk of magnesia. It has oil – blotting qualities that will help to create a smoother canvas for your makeup application.

Don’t panic as it will leave a milky residue to the skin, but your foundation will help to cover this and also allow your foundation to glide on smoothly.

Setting

Set your makeup!

To avoid your face from instantly melting as soon as the temperature rises, use a setting spray.

Mist it over your face from a good 6 inches away. Do this is a T formation and an X formation, this helps with the serious staying power.

Eyelid Creases

A lot of people stop using eyeshadows during the heat due to the excess oil on the eyelids, but to avoid the smudge look, use a dab of your primer and dab along your lid before applying your eyeshadows.

Brows

Eyebrow waxes tend to have a thicker consistency, meaning they are far superior to the powder in terms of their staying power during heat.

Use a wax pencil to provide your brows with some pigment and set the hairs in place.

Eyeshadow

If you are not 100% happy with using eyeshadow during the warmer weather, run a nude eyeliner along the bottom waterline, this will instantly open up the eyes to give you a much wider eyed, fresh look.

Foundation Application

When using a liquid foundation, easy to apply, but in the warm weather can swiftly go from looking lovely to greasy very quickly.

Use a foundation brush to apply, apply a small amount in criss cross softs around your face until your face is covered.

Doing this criss cross motion will not only blend your foundation but will also create a clear finish. It will also stop any streaking from happening when you sweat.

Patting Powder

After you have applied your foundation and happy with it, add a light layer of translucent powder, this will help set your foundation.

Don’t drag your powder brush across you face as this will transfer foundation and make some areas appear patchy, dab the brush firmly along your skin.

Blotting Papers

Keeping blotting papers in your bag during the summer are easy and also low maintenance. These papers will help remove the excess layer of oil that can cover your face during the summer, keeping your complexion light.

Lip stains

Lipsticks give you more intense colour on your pout but on hot days try and opt for a stain instead and they are less likely to melt during the heat.

Lip stains tend to sink into the lips rather than with lipsticks that sit on top of the lips.

Stains can look more flattering when are paired with a dewy sunkissed complexion.

Waterproof

Oh the dreaded raccoon eyes. Try and opt for the 24 hour waterproof eyeliner and mascara. These have a tendency to contain a lower water content and therefore will be less likely to smudge.

Powder blushes

Ditch these in the summer!

Instead of dusting off your cheeks with a your usual powder blush, opt for a creme instead.

Powder blushes can intensify greasy patches on your face again leaving you looking patchy.

Creme blushes can be swept over the cheeks by using your finger and will look more natural and blends in incredible well for a healthy look.

Glowing

Remember to make the most of the dewiness that the sun will give your skin. Add your highlighter at the top of your cheekbones, eye area, this will give you the dewy shine in all the right places.

Less is more

Applying too much moisturiser can contribute to you having slick skin even before you have applied your makeup. When applying too much, it doesn’t sink into your skin and will leave a residue on your skin. Opt for an oil free moisturiser.
