Clown contouring, the next makeup trick that will make you look totally flawless.
Let’s face it, contouring has reached the point of no return. What started as a makeup artist’s trick, to accentuate and hollow out cheekbones and sculpt facial features, has now turned into an internet phenomenon.
From dreaming about the high cheek bones of a Swede, or the rich Brazilian sun kissed eyebrows and the rosiest cheeks like a Russian doll. We have all dreamt about flattering facial features, but with all these different techniques taking over the internet and the right makeup girls can now transform themselves into practically any version of who you want to be that day.
Every other week it seems that there’s a new emphasis on the craze. To the new strobing technique, which is a reverse contour with highlighting, to the newer baking technique. This is where you set your concealer with a heavy amount of loose powder. It’s quite clear to see that the ‘less is more’ attitude will be taking a back seat for the moment.
The newest makeup contouring trend has hit the internet by storm and it’s called ‘Clown Contouring’. This is probably the most extreme version of contouring we have seen yet.
A few weeks ago a makeup artist called Esther Isabel Amado Romo, aka BelleDeLune on Youtube, had applied her makeup in such a way, it resembled a clown. She achieved this by placing colour correctors, brighteners, dark contours and highlighting strategically around her face. Then, on camera, blended her makeup away to create a flawless sculpted look.
The technique is a mix of the regular contouring with an over the top clown shape. It involves shading, highlighting and colour corrector but instead of using the general lines and blocks of colour we have just gotten used to, you now paint your face like a clown, like you would for a fancy dress party with all the geometric shapes. The difference, however, between clown contouring and regular clown makeup is that you use the colours according to the contouring rules and placement about the areas of your face where you want more of a chisel and a highlight.
It is quite obvious that the clown contour technique is a fun makeup experiment rather than an everyday look to try and achieve before work in the morning. But having said that, it is pretty impressive to sit back and watch what the outcome looks like.
For the easy sculpted look that will work for real life, sticking to the normal contouring that only requires 3 products will do.
