When you are expecting, you want to do anything and everything that is possible to make sure that the little peanut that is growing inside of you is healthy and safe. But you also want to remain beautiful and comfortable too.

So what beauty treatments are safe for you to use whilst you are carrying a baby for the next 9 months, and we have also added in which one’s you should be avoiding.

When pregnant the general rules are:

You should try to keep your body temperature below 39C (102.2F). This is the maximum temperature that researchers have determined that should be reached in order to keep you and your baby healthy.
Don’t use really harsh chemicals that are directly used on the skin. This is because it can be absorbed straight into your bloodstream, which your baby relies on.
If you are using harsh chemicals in a room, make sure the room in well ventilated.
Make sure you are telling the professional who is treating you that you are pregnant before undergoing any treatment.

People have many different opinions on what is and isn’t good for your unborn baby and yourself, and these are general rules, but if you are unsure about anything you can always come back to these four factors and decide whether something is safe enough for you to do.

So, treatments that you can keep up whilst pregnant:

Your day to day routine. Your everyday hair, makeup and bathing routine are perfectly fine to carry on with.
Massages. Massages are a great way to say goodbye to pregnancy aches that you will be feeling, and will also help you to unwind and relax and can also help you forget the impending motherhood approaching. Make sure, when going for a massage, that your masseuse is a prenatal therapist.
Acupuncture.
All natural facials. As your skin is more sensitive during your pregnancy, you may want to ask before starting that the product is tested on your skin first. When having facials, be careful about using Retinoids as this should never be used during pregnancy.
Mani & Pedis. Make sure the room you are in is well ventilated and the dangerous chemicals can fill the room. Make sure your tools are clean too as they can be added risks of infections.
Colouring hair is an everlasting debate. Highlights are fine whilst pregnant just as long as the chemicals that are being used aren’t coming into contact with your scalp.

Whilst your pregnant, you have slightly more freedom to do beauty treatments, but they’re still many treatments that you should be avoiding.

Sunbeds. Tanning is one of the things that can raise your sore temperature to dangerously high levels. The rays that they have in sun beds can break down the folic acid levels which are important for your baby.
Body Wraps. These can also cause your body to overheat.
Saunas and hot tubs. Although these are great to help you relax, they are just too hot for your body during pregnancy, even just for a few minutes.
Piercings. We all know being pregnant is tough on your immune system, so if you are thinking about getting a piercings, it could come with a risk of infections.
Hair removal. Having bits and pieces either waxed or electrolysis are completely fine but do avoid having things bleached as this sinks into your skin.
