Most of us would probably agree that eye makeup is the holy grail in the beauty world. Your eyes are the first place people tend to look and your makeup should always be making them look their best. The intentions with eye makeup is to make them appear brighter and fresher, to open them and lift them.

Eyeliner:

Applying eyeliner is probably the most important step to a good eye makeup. Here are a few tips and tricks to help perfect your liner.

  • Make sure that your eyelids are oil free by using a makeup remover. This will help to avoid smudging.
  • Keeping your eyes open whilst applying eyeliner helps ensures a perfect look. A little difficult at the beginning but easily to hold of.
  • Keep your line as close to the lashline as possible.
  • For the appearance of a bigger eye, rim the inner of your eyes with a white liner.
  • With age, using a dark intense shade as a blacker liner can become too harsh. Don’t stop using eyeliner, just try a softer shade.
  • The colour on the bottom lashline shouldn’t be darker than the one on the top lashline.

Mascara:

The finishing look to every girls makeup routine. The best way to apply your mascara is to start at the roots of the lashes and wiggle the brush up through to the ends. Use the tip of your mascara wand to apply mascara to the bottom lashes and to be able to reach the corner lashes if necessary.

  • Mascara should be placed at the base of the lashes, not the tips.
  • To avoid lashes sticking together, wiggle the brush back and forth through the lashes to separate them.
  • Using a lash comb after application helps removes clumps.
  • Eyelash curlers can be used before and after.
  • For a neat bottom lash line application, use a piece of tissue under the lashes.
  • To help your mascara stay on longer, use a base.

Eyeshadows:

Adding a pop of colour to your look. Choose shades that will either compliment your eye colour or contrast it. For example, for if you have blue eyes choose soft blue hues or copper and brown shades.

  • Apply the base colour to the base of your eye right upto the brow bone.
  • Apply the desired colour to the middle of the lid
  • Then apply the highlighter colour or the darker eye shadow colour to create depth.
  • Always choose your eyeshadow colour according to your skin tone. This will make a difference to how your eyes pop.
  • Different eye shapes will have different areas where you place your highlight, midtone and contour shade. So when applying your eyeshadow always keep in mind your eye type.

General Eye Tips:

  • To remove any build up eye makeup that you may have in your eyelid crease, dab it with blotting paper without smudging your line.
  • To get a better curl from your lashes, try warming up your eyelash curlers with a hair dryer, be careful and ensure they’re aren’t too hot.
  • The makeup brushes and applicators that you use should be of good quality, don’t buy them cheap.
  • When using a bright lipstick shade, try going light on the eye makeup, so it doesn’t turn into too bold a look.
  • Putting a light eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eye will make your eyes appear brighter.
  • A well maintained brow will always add to the beauty of your eye makeup, so make sure you’re using the right shape for your face.
